TDC Awards

The TDC competition, established in 1953, is the longest running, most prestigious, global typography and type design competition. Now in its 70th year, these awards are all about how letterforms are used and drawn, recognizing typographic excellence and celebrating new typeface designs in all global languages.

Yanghee Ryu

Seoul, Korea and Cambridge, UK

Yanghee Ryu is an independent type designer specializing in Hangul. She studied visual communication design at Hongik University in Seoul and graduated from the MA program in Typeface Design at the University of Reading in 2017. Yanghee released her first typeface Gowun-Hangul(2010) and Dongle-Hangul(2011) in Korea. Since then she has participated in type development projects such as Arita-Buri (2012-2013) and Ottogi Sans(2019-2021) as a senior type designer, and has developed her own typefaces. Now, she is participating in the new typeface development project for the school book in Korea and also consults on Hangul design for foreign foundries and students. Her interests include multi-script type design for developments of Hangul typefaces harmonized with other scripts.
