Celebration Of Winners

The Type Directors Club, the world’s leading typography organization, announced the winners from 41 countries in its prestigious TDC70 Competition.

This is the milestone 70th year of the Type Directors Club’s annual competition, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate its winners than with a breathtaking exhibition! Join us on Tuesday, May 14, for a reception where not only the very best of type and lettering will be on display, but this year’s Best of Discipline winners and Judges' Choice selections will finally be revealed.

On Thursday, May 16, slip into some comfortable shoes and join us as designer, calligrapher, and historian Paul Shaw returns to lead us on one of his renowned TDC Lettering Walks. This year, we will be headed down the spine of Manhattan, along Broadway from City Hall all the way to the Battery!

IMPORTANT NOTES

After a one-year change for TDC69, The Type Directors Club has reinstated the Communications Design discipline name. You’ll continue to find the many categories and subcategories you’ve enjoyed over the years under this popular discipline.

Communication Design is for any creation that uses type, lettering, or written langauge—be it print design, digital design, immersive experiences, architecture, fashion, film titles, social media campaigns, or otherwise.

Lettering is for work where the letters are either modified or created—this could entail traditional or abstract calligraphy, tattoos, wordmarks and custom logotypes, or typefaces that are just a little too out there to be classic typeface design.

Type Design is for entries showcasing the design of workable font software; this could mean single typefaces, type families, emoji or symbol fonts, or software for generating and creating type.

Continuing our commitment to entries from around the world, the TDC70 jury will include native experts for most major writing systems, including Arabic, Cyrillic, Indic, CJK, Latin, Thai, and select African scripts.

To make TDC70 as accessible as possible on a global level, the organization is offering significant regional discounts on entry fees. Approximately half of the world’s countries qualify for a 60% discount, and another quarter of them receive a 20% discount, with only the most economically prosperous countries and regions paying the full entry fee.
